The Diamond Jubilee 2012

title

Queen's Diamond Jubilee logo This summer, we have had the amazing opportunity to be living here during Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee year - sixty years since her coronation.  This past weekend, along with millions of people in the UK, we celebrated the Her Royal Majesty's Diamond Jubilee.  The Diamond Jubilee marks 60 years of The Queen’s reign. The Queen came to the throne on 6th February 1952 (her Coronation took place on 2nd June 1953). Celebrations have been going on all year throughout the United Kingdom with members of the Royal Family visiting many places. We are so lucky to have moved to the UK in 2012.  This weekend there is a four day celebration for this amazing lady and her years reigning as the Queen.  A few weeks ago we visited Windsor Castle.  They had a display of photos of Queen Elizabeth throughout the years which was so fun to see.

I really wanted to go into London for the party, but there were going to be over a million people and..... so instead, we decided to visit the picturesque Henley-on-Thames.  Henley hosted a Diamond Jubilee River Pageant with over 90 boats.  It was so fun to see a true English river pageant - beautiful boats, decorated with flowers, flags, and ladies and gentlemen  all dressed so fine having tea as they floated along - just like the one that would take place on Sunday on the Thames in London. Such a fun time!

It looked like so much fun that we decided to rent a little boat and cruise ourselves.  It was a little embarrassing though since we were terribly under dressed.
